Project V
: In the context of the "Rencontres Intemporelles" (Timeless Meetings) event, Sabien Witteman created a work based on the notion of Resistance on the front of the old town hall of Joigny (France).
Installation : At times of war, the first move of occupying forces is to impose its flag over the conquered territory. The artist unrolled banners carrying a simple V, a symbol for victory. Every day forward, she then changed one banner to a portrait painted live, on site. Three Jovinian resistants of WWII are represented, along with three other banners bearing the faces of martyrs of the Arab Spring, the recent uprising against more contemporary dictatorships. |
